Hi again,

Well since the last blog we have spent a few days in the Marina at the Yacht Club at Port Douglas, the sail up was eventful, there was a call on the VHF from Cairns VTS, there was two people in the water off Double Island and they where looking for assistance. We where about 4 miles from the island so we radioed back and said that we would assist. We turned back towards where the last reported sighting, belting back against the 25 knot south easterly that was blowing. The long story short was that we got to where the two guys were to see them pulled out of the water by the rescue helicopter, it put us an hour behind but it was good to here that the guys where safe and well. Not quite sure why they where out in a ski boat in 25 knot winds, crazy stuff.

We got to Port Douglas around 5.30 and found our berth at the Yacht Club, the marina is older and has not got the same facilities as the near by Meridian Marina, but makes up for it with the friendliness of the manager Ian and the other tenants. Everyone we spoke to was happy to lend us a hand or give us some local advice if needed. It doesn’t hurt that it is a few meters to the Yacht Club for Mac and I to go and have a game of pool. It is also a fair bit cheaper that the opposition.

On the Sunday Mac busked at the local markets, he was a bit rusty to start with but he had a great day, sang for two and a half hours and put some solid cash in his piggy bank. It was particularly busy as there was a cruise ship anchored off Port Douglas and they where being ferried in to the markets. The rest of the time here we have been prepping the boat for a trip up to Lizard Island, we have shopped for the trip, washed the boat. I have serviced to Genset, fix a toilet that was playing up and Mac and I have even had a chance to get the Kite Boards out and have a practice. We are coming along ok, but it will be a few more times before we get the hang of it.

Anyway we are off to Lizard tomorrow; we will take three days to get there. We will be sailing with Jason and his family on “Tres Amigios” as well as the crew from “Double Shot” and “Obsession”. The world famous Port Douglas to Lizard Island fishing comp starts tomorrow as well, should be a heap of fun with 4 boats involved.

We will have patchy internet at Lizard so it may be a little while until my next update.

Stay Safe,

Adam..
