Well hello everyone,

We have had a wonderful 6 weeks cruising from Port Douglas to Lizard Island twice. Our first trip was with our dear friends from Noosa, Nikki, Jamie, Hamish, Monique and Trent. Yes we had 9 people on board for three weeks!  It was a wonderful trip, we had calm weather on departure, so decided to stay at magnificent Mackay Cay for the night and enjoyed a walk on the beach, a snorkel around the coral gardens and a champagne on sunset. It was the perfect start to the trip.

The next day we sailed to Irene Reef, just below ribbon number One. We dropped anchor in about 6 metres of water in the company of “Double Shot” and the kids and the boys went for a quick hunt around the reef for Crayfish, and yes we caught a good feed, we also managed to catch a red Emperor and a couple of reef sharks to everyone’s excitement.  We woke in the morning to find the reef totally glassed off, no wind and excellent visibility so the decision was made to stay another day and enjoy the magical conditions.

Everyone went for a snorkel, Nikki and I dropped the paddle ski’s into the water and paddled along the edge of the reef, we spotted large schools of colourful fish, magnificent coral jungles and a couple of turtles.  What an experience!  Adam and the boys decided to break out the wakeboards and have the ultimate experience – wake boarding on the outer barrier reef it was a real buzz watching them skimming over the coral and landing perfectly beside the boat.  Adam, Jamie, Nikki and I jumped in the rubber duck and proceeded to cruise the drop off, it was a little scary but amazingly beautiful. The next day the serious fishing started and everyone got involved, landing Spanish Mackerel, School Mackerel and a couple of Tuna – Sashimi for Tea.

We arrived in Lizard Island about 5.00pm just in time for Sundowners! The next ten days we spent exploring the beautiful place that is Lizard Island, the Blue Lagoon, Cooks Lookout, The Marlin Bar, Watson’s Bay, we ventured to Eagle Isle and Adam and Mac had a great Kite Surf with Tony and Karen from “Double Shot”. We swam, snorkelled, bush walked, Kayaked, sun baked, read books, played music, ate, drank and enjoyed the friendship, the atmosphere and the beauty of Lizard Island.  We left a little sad to be saying goodbye, but excited about the sail back to Port Douglas approximately 110 nautical miles.

Our first stop on the journey home was Irene Reef, the conditions were not as favourable so we decided not to snorkel, we had a fish, some dinner then off to bed for the weary crew.  We pulled up anchor early and headed to Low Isles, on the way we decided to have a lunch stop at Mackay Cay and a quick swim and snorkel. Then cruising to Undine Reef we landed a huge Spanish Mackerel – Yummy. We arrived at Low Isles about 4.00 pm and settled in to watch the sunset and feed the fish off the back of the boat.  The journey was about to end and we all felt a little melancholy. Lifting anchor in the morning we had a quick sail into Port Douglas, what a wonderful trip it was……….Then Lauren and Dave arrived the next day and we did it all again!!!!! What a wonderful life…………..
